The Junior Gold Championships (or just Junior Gold) is the world’s premier youth championship with almost 4000 participants from all over the United States, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and even other countries such as Canada and Germany.
Tournament
Held for 9 days during July, it consists of 4 qualifying rounds, advancer rounds, match play, and finals which are televised nationally. Competitors are divided into divisions based on age and gender. It is a “scratch” singles tournament only, no handicap is given.
Qualifying rounds are held at four different bowling centers, on four different sport oil patterns. The patterns for all rounds are not released until after Junior Gold has completed.
Associated Events
Before the start of Junior Gold, a large trade show is hosted with activities, meet and greets with Professorial bowlers, representation from many colleges, displays and merchandise from manufactures, etc. Clinics are given by some of the world’s leading coaches and industry experts. A ball demo is provided where you can try the sponsoring company’s latest releases with pros right on the lanes with you. A “Party in the Park” type event is hosted, with many of the pros taking part in games and activities with the competitors. Prior registration for these activities is necessary and can be found at the top of the “Special Events” page.
A large Opening Ceremony is presented the night before the qualifying rounds begin, with all competitors making an entrance with their respective states, entertainment, Bowler’s Choice awards, talent show, etc. This year, this is combined with the “Party in the Park“.
